CWP / Firearms Safety Class
Gun Cleaning For Novices
The CWP class is for ladies and men who would like training in firearm safety and / or would like to obtain their CWP (Concealed Weapons Permit) in SC. Many people take the course to become familiar with firearm safety but never apply for their CWP. However, you will leave with everything you need to apply for your CWP.
The class is really fun so bring a friend. Don't be intimidated by it. I have not had anyone fail the classroom or practical shooting portions! Many of the students have never held a firearm before and still pass!
The Instructor
Bruce Widener will be your instructor. He is an NRA Certified Basic Pistol Instructor and a SC SLED Certified Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP) Instructor. He also qualified as an "Expert" on the M16 in the Army.
Cost
The cost is $75 per person.
Send a deposit of $25 made payable to "Bruce Widener" to 221 Rock Creek Rd., Anderson, SC 29625 to confirm your place in the class.
If you do not have a pistol, they are available to rent for $25. Ammo is also available at cost.
I would recommend that you NOT purchase a pistol prior to the class. We will discuss what you may want to consider in a pistol.
Ammo is also available to purchase.
What You Need
You will need:
- a functioning pistol UNLOADED
- Ammunition one box 50 rounds (new / no reloads)
to be left in your car until we get to the range. - Eye and ear protection
- A Baseball Style Cap is Recommended for the Range
- Holster and Belt – helpful but not essential
- Some type of case in which to keep your pistol
Your classroom is less than from I-85 and Exit 14 or Hwy. 187. Or, 5 minutes from Portman Marina. After you sign up we will email directions. GPS sometimes does not find us.
The classes are held in a casual barn setting. Be sure to dress casual and warmly is you are very cold natured. If it has been raining, you will want to consider your shoes because it can be muddy at the shooting range.
After the classroom portion, we will proceed to Skip J Range for the actual shooting exercise.

Time Required
The class will begin at 8 am sharp so please be on time.
We will go to lunch at 11:30 at the Barn Wood Grill (closed on Sundays) or you can rejoin us after lunch.
We will then go to Skip J Range at 3:30 for the shooting exercise portion.
The class will conclude at 5 pm.
SLED mandates that the course last a full 8 hours!

Gun Cleaning For Novices!
Several of my students have encouraged me to have a class to show them how to clean their pistols. As you learned in the class, you must clean your firearms to make sure they function properly.
At this class, we will show you how to clean your firearm, talk about guns and gun safety, answer your questions, listen to the oldies on Pandora (and sing along!) This will be fun.
You will need:
- Gun cleaning kit (Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Grady’s, etc.)
- Jeans and shirt that may get solvent and gun powder on
- Pipe cleaners (Hobby Lobby)
- Q tips
- Strong toothpicks
- Really Old tee shirt to use as a rag
- Your pistol manual if you have it
- Your husband’s hunting light that goes on his head, if he has one!
Cost: $20 per person (helps pay for other supplies)
$40 For anyone who has not taken or has not signed up for
my CWP class
